BASIC FUNCTION:  Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups; monitors and report student progress. Will be helping students (primarily in elementary school) who are acquiring English as a Second Language.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Instructional Assistant I incumbents assist a certificated teacher by performing a variety of support functions in a regular classroom setting.  Instructional Assistant II incumbents work within a complex program typically requiring additional skills and characterized by increased independence of action.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must be at least 18 years of age and supply proof of: A high school diploma and passed the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment OR completion of  a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours of study at an institution of higher education OR an associate (or higher) degree 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Also requires a physical exam, TB risk assessment, CAN check ($10), a state/national criminal background check ($33.25) and Drug screen ($20).  This position is 181 days (prorated remainder of year); 7.5 hours per day;  Paygrade 17
