Requirements:

The Special Education Teacher Consultant must hold a valid Director of Special Education (DoSE) certificate (or be able to obtain certification prior to start date) and five (5) years experience in special education/collaborative classroom or its equivalent.

 

This person must possess qualities of effective leadership and knowledge of special education instructional strategies and law.  Communication skills and interpersonal traits that personify excellence will be necessary for this position.  The attainment of excellent technology skills will be required.

 

Details:

Salary commensurate with years of teaching experience and rank plus stipend.

Working 200 days (prorated for the 2017-2018 school year).

Start Date: January 2018

The Special Education Teacher Consultant shall be directly responsible to the Director of Special Education (DoSE).

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Assist in recognizing the professional development needs of special needs staff.

     

    • Assists special needs teachers in curriculum and program matters.

     

    • Shall serve as a liaison between teachers and the Director of Special Education.

     

    • Assist in folder reviews and monitor compliance issues.

     

    • Shall assist the Director of Special Education in the needs assessment and evaluation process for special programs.

     

    • Shall be responsible for surveying, assessing, and documenting staff needs in relation to federal programs.

     

    • Shall assist other special needs staff in updating knowledge based on current issues and models for instruction.

     

    • Assist in monitoring implementation of the policies and procedures for special education.

     

    • Participate in school-based admission and release committees (SBARC) as needed.

     

    • Conduct and/or assist in training with special education staff.

     

    • Assist in providing teachers with training and feedback regarding appropriate due process procedures.

     

    • Assist in the formulation of checklists and forms for accurate documentation of due process.

     

    • Shall perform any other duties as delegated by the Director of Special Education or by the Superintendent of Schools.
